JIM SMITH, BED, LL.B.

Jim opened the Smith Law Office after being called to the Alberta Bar in 1980. Today, as its principal, Jim has grown the Smith Law Office into a thriving general-practice firm with client ranging in size from individual people to multi-national corporations. A member of the Alberta Law Society, and Calgary Bar Association, Jim's practice has a focus in civil litigation, real-estate, family, and wills and estate law. Jim has handled matters in all levels of courts in Alberta.

Jim’s extensive experience before entering the practice of law has helped him in his career. Jim worked on the oil rigs in Northern Alberta and is such particularly well-position to advise oil and gas clients on their legal issues, as he has seen the companies work from the ground up. Jim also worked as both a teacher and a principal in the Alberta education system where he developed his exceptional ability to explain complicated issues in a manner that ensures that people understand them.

ADAM GARRETT, BA, MBA, LL.B.

After articling with a national law firm in Calgary, Adam joined the Smith Law Office as an associate in the summer of 2009. Adam carries on a general practice, with a focus in corporate commercial, civil litigation and criminal law. Adam has appeared in all levels of courts in Alberta and is a member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Calgary Bar Association.

Adam graduated from Dalhousie University with a degree in Law and a Masters in Business Administration in 2008 and completed his Bachelor of Arts degree on exchange at St. Andrew's University, Scotland in 2004. Adam is an active volunteer with Calgary Legal Guidance and works with Alberta Legal Aid assisting on both criminal and family law files.
